Times of Devastation

"But Pharaoh said, 'Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover, I will not let Israel go,'" the preacher paused to hear the crowd react.

There was no reaction, there was no congregation in front of him. Today it was just the preacher alone in the church broadcasting to facebook. He claimed he was anointed by the blood of the Lord, but knew it was unwise to bring his people to danger.

"Israel suffered, plague after plague because Pharaoh would not let the people go. They may call it a virus but it is a plague. Here we are, the world is suffering people are dying. Good people, bad people, it makes no difference. Why? Because the world will not let our people go. The fires of colonization may no longer be blazing, but the burns are still there. Around the world, no matter where you go, people of the African Diaspora suffer. We sing the Negro National Anthem. We shall Overcome."

He goes on, unsure of where he is going. His congregation usually is made up of forty people. At the moment over 1000 were watching him stream the service. He had a sermon this morning, but the words he had written down were not coming out. Instead words he had long thought left his lips faster than he could think.

"I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, that's how the song goes. But I don't want to sing anymore. Because I am not happy, I am not free. No matter where I go, I will not be free. I am a captive, an exile a refugee in my own country. These are the same feelings that my father had, my grandfather, his grandfather and his grandfather. These are the ways that Black people feel every day."

Another pause to gather his thoughts, the comments were starting to fill up. More people were coming to hear what he was saying. He couldn't see the comments or the views. He could only see his next words.

"Governments fall because they become wicked and tainted with evil. I'm not talking presidents and senators. I'm talking man behind the man behind the man behind the throne that causes our so called leaders to shake and rattle their bones. The warmongers, the rapists, killers and monsters that hold our countries in their hands because of money. Now, they are at the whim of the same virus as us all. No matter how they choose to hide or torment the peoples they don't like, we are all equal now. We are living in days of devastation. We will all be devastated. Governments will fall, the economy will crash. The only thing, that can guide us through these times, is faith."
